This house has welcomed travellers on rue Saint-Antoine since at least 1867. It is written in that year's Paris directory.

Two houses, one sign

In 1867 the directory Adresses de Paris lists, side by side under H: “Herse d'Or, Petit-Musc, 35” and “Herse d'Or, Haquin (L.), St-Antoine, 191”. Two houses, one sign, two streets apart. The one on rue Saint-Antoine was then run by a certain L. Haquin.

Ten years later, on 5 April 1877, an official patent register mentions an applicant living at 191 rue Saint-Antoine, “hôtel de la Herse d'Or”.

The sister house disappears

The inn on rue du Petit-Musc lasted until the middle of the 20th century. The Musée Carnavalet keeps its memory: a photograph of its courtyard taken in 1909, and two drawings by Xavier Sibien made in April 1941. It was demolished around 1961, during the redevelopment of the district.

One house carries the name on

In 1963 the house on rue Saint-Antoine was incorporated as a company under the name “Hotel La Herse d'Or”. Fully renovated in 2023 (new lift, redesigned rooms), it now has 29 rooms.
